Question Becker's Redneck Scuttles err I mean flower pots

I would like to try one of his small scuttles but they don't seem to stay unsold more than a couple hours. When I contacted him last week he said he wont be having anymore for awhile because he just doesn't have the time to make them. Then I started looking at his african violet pots and they do indeed look a lot like a scuttle.

I've tried looking at the ceramic flower pots at Walmart and all the local hardware stores but alas this year they have all succumbed to mass produced, cheap plastic pot fever. All the self watering pots I've found are 2 plastic bowls with slots cut between that demand the soil inside act as a wick. That's not even good for plants because submerging the soil like that causes the roots to rot. So I headed back to Wally World and went to look at bowls in the kitchen section. I can't find two that fit the way I want that aren't more expensive than Becker's african violet pots (and that even includes shipping.) I like a pretty kitchen as much as the next gal but get real. I don't care if Paula Dean endorses it. She doesn't cook at my house.

Becker's flower pots are pretty and cheaper even than his elusive scuttles. The only part I question is the inside diameter of the inner pot. They all seem to be right around 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 inches. Think that's too small?

that should be a good size. maybe the depth may be a little short and you'll lose some lather. i tried looking these up on google, but i couldn't find any.
is there a link online i could find it at?

Robert sells on Ebay as rbecker13. Here's a link to one of his flower pots that I've had book marked. Maybe the censor wont get me since I'm asking a question. The dimension I'm going by is the "planting area." The ruffled part at the top isn't included in that. I do think the ruffles might make a good place to park a brush handle.

I see now he has some 3 1/2" in diameter but still 2 1/2 deep.

    PM sent.
I wouldn't suggest his violet pots as a scuttle as the sidewalls are quite thin and the separate bowls don't fit smoothly this would cause excess stress and crack (experience). There are other violet pots that work, but the sources I know of are west coast only.

If you are talking about Robert Becker, his big scuttle is GREAT. I've had my custom one for about a month now. Don't substitute anything but a scuttle for a scuttle...keep after him. There are other makers of scuttle's as well...

Makers of scuttles yes. Makers of money no. I think a more expensive scuttle will have to wait and I'll have to make do with a home grown one for awhile. Unfortunately, the government frowns on homegrown cash.

Oh well. Someone bought the one I was looking to buy while we were discussing it. At least someone got some good out of this thread. lol

I guess I'll remain scuttle-less for awhile. Thanks for the help, hcintineo.

Good news! I found a ceramics shop that has the same flower pot molds that Becker uses. They'll let me pour one up extra thick and glaze the inside of the lather bowl.
