Thanked: 1Looking for info about Ronney Finest in Stubby
Hey guys, I'm new here but have a lot of experience on another shaving forum. I use straights with some regularity, but I don't have the collection or knowledge that many of the gents here possess on them.
I've been trying to track down a Rooney Finest Stubby in size 2 or 3. I've seen them in size 1, but never 2 or 3. Supposedly these were actually made at one point.
Has anyone owned one? And if so, what did you think about it compared to a finest in 1/1 or 3/1? Also, any guesses as to how many of these brushes were made? I know its a desirable brush, but I didn't expect it to be as difficult to track down as its proved thus far.
Any information or guidance you could provide would be much appreciated

Welcome to SRP. I've got a Finest in size 1 style 1, 2/1 and 3/1. These are the greatest brushes known to man since time began. The feel is indescribable. It is like you died and went to heaven. All lathers are the perfect consistency with the finest no matter what the brand or type. The feel of the bristles on the face is prickly for those who like that and soft if you don't. Backbone if you want it and floppy if that is your preference. The brush knows intuitively what your desire is and that is what you get. Too bad they don't make 'em anymore.

I have a T&H made by Rooney in finest grade. It is a few years old though. IIRC T&H had brushes made by Simpson, Rooney, maybe Kent among others. If Rooney is still making brushes for T&H they are not making Finests. I've heard the problem is the quality of the badger hair available not being readily available but I have no idea if there is anything to that.

My understanding also is the finest (2 band) is not available anymore. Other makers use 2 band but it's inferior to the classic stuff. I think Rooney is about the only one who said they would just drop that designation. Maybe Plisson too but I'm not sure about them.
