Well, I don't know how much you spent, but that bowl/stand/mirror combo is pretty sweet!

Paid too much? How much was it worth to you? That should be your guide, if you were hoping for resale value then perhaps you could be disappointed, but like DerekC I think those are all very nice, and the set I'd be happy to have myself. Money well spent, I say

The brush/bowl/stand combo is really cool looking. I haven't seen anything like it before.

Thanked: 3Worst case scenario: drop a puck of [your favorite soap here] in it, and get the handle knotted with [favorite brush maker here]'s knot. Now, it's priceless.

That thing is cool! As has already been said, it is worth whatever you think it is worth to you. If you were comfortable paying the asking prices for what you received in return, you made a good deal.

I really like the combo, but I cant bring myself to try it out, its small in every way and sort of feminine...

I don't think the setup with the bowl, brush and mirror are too girly for a guy. Turquoise is a manly color. It's not like it's Baby Blue or something like that. I like to think that if I was a guy I would use it.
I've heard lots of guys complain about Victorian scuttles looking too feminine and for the most part they are by modern standards. I think the standards of manliness might have been different back then. My son is into steampunk and they run into Victorian frilliness problem fairly often. One way around that is to make a stand or display for the item in question to make it more macho looking. Gears and sprockets and tools and things like that are favorite disguise among the steampunk crowd. They look amazingly good with porcelain covered in flowers. Go figure.
