I have had good luck with VDH brushes... I have one that is ten years old.
Thus I wonder about the way they are hung out to dry or how they get used
    when they fall apart.

But for the price if a $7 brush falls apart in a year... so what.

Another boar brush to look for is the Omega #10098

As far as building a lather it is possible to lather with
a puck of inexpensive shave soap like Williams and a
    chunk of sponge.

Now matter which brush you have it pays to tinker and
play with it to find how to make a lather that pleases you
    with it.

I don't know where you guys live that you can find badger brushes at Target. My nearest Target has a decent selection of disposable, electric, and cans of goo...even the odd shave cream in a tube, but no brushes...not even pucks of VDH soap.

I live in Texas and my local Target carries the VDH badger brushes and well as the VDH soap pucks (the more expensive one they put out). In face basically every local store to me, aside from Brookeshire's, carries some sort of soap pucks and some sort of brushes.

Up here in Corn and Pheasant country some stores carry VDH (Wally World and pharmacies of various types), and the rest carry Mitchel's Mug (Grocer's and other pharmacies) But Target...Target has nothing, not even DE blades.

    Peace,
    Jim

The VDH badger is a huge improvement from anyone using their boars hair brush. Its not a very expensive brush, they can be had for about $10 at Target, but its a good brush for someone who doesnt want to pay $100 for one. No its not the best quality, but for the price its nothing to snuff at. It does smell a bit weird right out of the package, but that fades fairly quickly. It holds water alot better than the boars hair, especially if you soak it in hot water while you shower. Sure it isnt silvertip badger or anything like that, but its not bad. I have no problem getting a good lather with it. Just my 2 cents.
    +1 To this
I started with VDH boar, and moved to VDH badger. And while im thinking about going to a Golden Nib DIY brush thats as much because I want to see if its as much of an upgrade as my last one as because I dont like the VDH. If you dont know any different its a huge upgrade and will allow you to be much happier until the change jar gets full again.
