Hello Gents!
I need some expert advise on acquiring my first B-Brush...which brush has absolutely the best quality at a reasonable price point?
Thank you in advance!

Thanked: 11I would recommend either a Savile Row 3118 at $75 or an Edwin Jagger BBBS for half that.
Thanks,

Depends on what you consider reasonable, but either way I would recommend a Thater. Their Fine's are around $45, and their Finest start around $110 or $120. The finest is a silvertip, but I'm not sure if the fine is a best or fine.
Alternately, if there is one nearby, you could stop in at a Crabtree & Evelynn or AOS and feel some in person. I believe the old go-to mid-range brush was a Jagger carried by C&E, but I know nothing about AOS products (though most look overpriced to me).

My first brush was a CM best badger. I think if you can get a best for around $40 or less its overall the best deal. However, realize down the road you will probably want a silvertip so you might just want to save some more and buy the silvertip anyway to begin with.
Thaters are very fine brushes. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Hi MaddMan,
If you are on a tight budget, seriously consider a Frank Shaving Finest Badger Hair Shaving Brush. A Google search for the Ian Tang store will give you several options. I have several brushes including a Simpson which cost over $80, however my "go to" brush is always the FS badger brush which only cost about $25 including postage. It is good for both face and bowl lathering.
This recommendation is based on your Best Badger-Bang-For-My-Buck! ...??? request.

I would recommend a custom brush from Rudy vey with a TGN knot. You could get an amazing brush to your specs under $75. My Rudy vey is my favorite brush.

Thanked: 3IMO, it all depends on what your budget is.
There are a couple Simpsons under $50 as well as several semogue and omega boars, if you can spend $75 look at a Rooney size 1 (any handle shape), around $100 check out a duke 3 in best, $150 perhaps a Rooney heritage or a Simpsons in super.

I've gotten good results from a Fendrihan for under $30. It still, two and a half years later, sheds a hair now and then, but works well. I think it's made by Vulfix.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

i've been using a simpsons colonel x2l in best the last few weeks. honestly, i cant imagine going for higher quality hair, seems like it would be TOO soft. its big and whips up a mean lather. i think my next brush may be a wee scott. great reviews, and i'd like to try something smaller, especially for $35!
