I fill my scuttle, and add about a half cup of water to the inner bowl (which I will pour out later) and put it in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes. Heats it up very nicely, and I don't have to boil water on the stove. Love warm lather!

In that case, it costs 8 Bajillion Dollars. Plus tax, shipping, and handling.

As far as I can tell the purpose of the scuttle is to keep your lather warm during the entire shave. Hot water fills the 'lower' bowl and you create your lather in the top bowl. The scuttles are normally made from materials that have a high thermal mass to retain maximum heat.

And for those hot summer days, using cold water in your scuttle makes for a refreshing cool shave!

What kind of scuttle do you have skinord?? Just curious who ends up with what, ya know? There are a lot of good ones to choose from.

I have a Georgetown G5. I hear alot of people do not like this scuttle due to it's small size. But IME this has worked well for me. If the lather gets cold, I just add more hot water from the faucet. As my experience with the straight gets better, I seem to have plenty of warm lather left. However on leisurely weekend shaves it will need a refill. All in all I really like mine, not too big and works for me.

Georgetown. I just made on in a pottery class that is larger, but it is somewhere between ok and butt ugly, so I'm not sure what its future is. It does keep lather warmer longer, however. Maybe I'll forgive its looks.
