Default Simpson PJ2 Best Badger Brush

Thanks to Lee at Lee's Razors for this...

After putting off buying a Simpson PJ brush, I broke down and spent the cabbage. And I'm glad I did!

I've lusted after this brush for quite some time, due to the handle design. I call it the "Mae West" brush. That being said, I'm in love with Mae! I've used this brush exclusively for the past week. I've tried it with Taylor's, T&H, hard soaps, soap sticks and glycerine soaps. This brush just flat out performs. The tops are soft, but bristles stand up under pressure, and it holds more water than the Titanic. In fact, with it's first use, I had to start my lather a second time. On the first try, I got soup. The brush is not heavy, but has a good feel to it. Then handle is easy to maneuver and work with, and it is well balanced. My only complaint, which I have heard with all Simpson brushes, is their labeling and imprinting. The brush is first class. The labeling and imprinting is 3rd class. So I applied clear nail polish over the Simpson label and tossed it in the rotation.

If you want a brush the feels good, looks good and builds superlative lather...look no further. The Simpson PJ2 does it all very well. In fact, I believe I hear it "whistling" for me now.

RT, I know I could look it up, but I'm lazy. What's the size on the PJ2? Thanks.

    Jordan,

The overall height is 108mm. The handle is 55mm, the bristle loft is 53 mm. The knot size is 21mm.

Thanks RT. I'm still hemming and hawing about what new brush to get. I don't have SBAD yet, so I want this one to count!

I am considering a custom job from Matt, but not until I get a permanent f/t job and a paddle from Tony. For now the C&E BB will have to do.

I have talked to Lee to try to figure out what type of brush I need, but still cant figure it out. I actually dont have any problems with my pure badger brush or my boar brush (other than the fact that the boar brush is cheap and it sheds). I do like the pure badger more than the boar for sure, and I want to try super badger or silvertip but I dont know if I'd care about the difference in softness or water retention due to the way I apply my cream, and its a lot of money to spend to not like something. I know I want a big knot size, but thats it.

I use the brush to apply soap and cream as if I was waxing a car in that circular motion which I think would pretty much diminish the impact of any softness that a brush would have due to the amount prussure I apply. What do ya think RT???
