Default Shaving brush fell apart ---- damn

I think the title tells the story

The brush is an Omega Badger Shaving Brush
The materials appear to be a chrome coated plastic collar on the brush handle
some kind of aluminium or similar for the rest of the handle
and the knot of coarse has a white plastic base - about 20mm diameter, depth about 10mm

So the problem now is what glue to use to fix the problem
When it first happened I did a clean up the Silastic that held it together
Yes you read it right - Silastic

There was a considerable gap between the brush knot and its seat in the handle
The silicone went about 1/3rd of the way down the gap - about 20mm depth
I am guessing the brush knot just sort of sat there held on by Silastic

I have tried Tarzan's Grip with little success - lasted 3 days
So now I want to know what glue will work would be best to fix the problem

Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated
Bought from The Shaver Shop in Brisbane ... no endorsement from this shaver

    Thanks in advance

    Rick

    Hey Rick,
For what it's worth, when i make make brushes i glue in the knot with 2 part epoxy. i have used both Devcon 2 Tonne epoxy and also Araldite - the full strength stuff - not the 5 minute.
    Never had any issues.
    Regards,

I use an Omega and have had no problems.

I agree with Adam, 2 part epoxy is the way to go.

Really, the Shaver Shop should replace it but otherwise go with any of the recommended glues .
I use Selleys Plastibond as it is quick setting, a good filler, waterproof & handles up to 190 C.

I fixed a separated Plisson with CA (Krazy Glue). It hasn't broken yet. The standard CA glues have very little gap-filling ability. There are "gel" CA glues that are thicker, and they are more forgiving with poor fits.

If the handle is black or white, you could try some polyurethane adhesive/sealant -- 3M 5200 or Sikaflex. That tests at about 600 psi (shear), which is strong enough for a brush handle. It is very forgiving stuff (fills all gaps), waterproof, and can be cleaned off before it sets. I forget if acetone or alcohol is the recommended solvent.

PS -- if you use CA, _do not_ try to remove any excess wet glue. It smears, and hardens immediately, and then you have a tricky sanding/polishing job ahead of you.

Two things I'd try is to first talk to the manager at the shop where you purchased it. I'd think they'd exchange it. Second, regardless of what happens with that, I'd email Omega and inform them of the problem. They may have changed to a different glue. Good luck.

Either thick CA or a good epoxy should both work well.
