It is indeed great of them to send the old brush back, but I liked it even better that they sent me a new brush without any fuss at all. Very correct, the guys over at Thäter.

Ive never done this but have often thought of it for increasing the stiffness of some of my brushes!

Nice suggestion but no go chaps. I'd rather go with Jimmy's suggestion to use it as is, I'm most definitely not going to cut up or replace a 28mm silvertip fan-shaped Thäter brush

I say play with it and see what you can do. If it doesn't work cut out the bristles and gouge out the plug then you can place a new knot.
OK ?! Didn't know that. Another thing to think about then. Where do you get those ?

Another related question, if I finally go down that road, any suggestions as to what glue to use ? I know nothing about the long-term effects of CA/epoxy/resin/whatever on badger hair. What is it the makers use in the first place ?

The blood of baby seals and a newt's eyeball. Wait, no, wrong recipe. Marine grade epoxy of some sort.
