Good luck with the Moss scuttle, Obie. I've never owned one but, like you, have felt the temptation. They are supposed to be great for the primary face latherer, so that should work well with your latest endeavour

I am mostly a creature of habit, though with an open mind to trying new things. Occasionally I'll look back, only to find my existing notions reinforced, but will sometimes be surprised. This was recently notable with my Parker 22R DE razor, which was once written off as inferior but now provides fine shaves. No matter, but an open mind is the most important part. Indeed, as various facets of life have shown me, Heraclitus was correct, as surely as a sunrise, death and taxes

    Be well my friend.

Ryan, my dear friend, thanks for the kind words. I ordered the small Moss Scuttle, which, as you know, Chris Moss designed not for the purpose of making lather, but to keep the brush warm. Through the years I face-lathered only when traveling; at home it was strictly bowl-lathering. I must admit, I am really enjoying face-lathering once again at home.
    You, too, stay well.

You know, I think I must be losing my memory, because I've only been straight razor shaving for four months and the other day I had trouble remembering how I used to lather! It was of course with cheap Palmolive cream in my cupped hand i the shower before shaving with probably the cheapest Bic one could buy. However, at almost 50 (hitting 50 is going to be harder than hitting 40) I'm looking back on my life a lot at the moment.

By the way, sometimes I face lather, but normally I bowl lather, for two main reasons; controlling the development of the cream (water/cream ratio) and because when I face lather it tends to go EVERYWHERE, over the mirror, wall, etc...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Not to the extent of your looks back, but when I lather with MWF, I find myself remembering my first shaves with a straight. Scent is a powerful memory trigger.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.
