EJ Brush Odor?
Hey guys,
I just got an awesome Edwin Jagger brush with horn style handle (matching stand & mach 3 handle). Its very nicely made, however It seems to have a strong smell - kind of a wet sheep or similar odor and it's impacting on the shave..
Anyone else experience this? Any trick/tips? I've made a few lathers with MWF but the smell lingers..

Try soaking it in conditioner? Wash it first with shampoo.

normal for any new brush. smells like wet dog. after a few shaves it will be gone.

Bob, the strong and unpleasant order is natural with many new brushes, badger or boar, and eventually it goes away. You may either shampoo your new brush to eliminate "some" of the odor, or accept it as part of the wet shaving experience and let time and use take care of it. That's what I do.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a shampoo and see how it goes. It's just really overpowering at the moment..
Puts the 'pure badger' Windsor brush I've been using into doubt though... Atleast the Windsor doesn't shed..

Like it has been stated, that odor is quite normal, and it will disappear soon enough.
I've never bothered with any shampoo or other cleaning of mine.
A couple of shaves using a decent soap and it is all but goneBjoernar

Thanked: 4I wash my entire body with a new brush in the shower using much shaving soap. (chest, arms, neck etc..) This will remove the odor and start the bloom nicely.....
Works great-----And what could be better than skin and shaving soap to break in a brush? This simply accelerates the process. (naturally)

Personally, I think it's a wonderful aroma. I want someone to come out with shaving soap with that aroma. Some aftershave wouldn't be bad either.
