Thread: Brush Recommendation

Hello all...
This is just a friendly little poll to get some new suggestions...

I currently have two brushes that I absolutely love (Thäter 4125-1 and SOC boar) and while I could go with just these two and be fine, I would kind of like something inbetween.

Soft tips, more backbone than the Thäter, less that the SOC...24mm+ knot, preferably bulb shaped...any suggestions?

I thought about the 2 band Thäter, but that seems a little uninspired when I am aiming for variety...

A Simpson Chubby in best(which is 2-band I think) badger should fit your requirements well.

Another option would be a Shavemac D01, 2 band.
A superb brush, and one of my absolute favorites.

I've used and Omega boars hair brush for a decade or more and I prefer it to my badger any day of the week. Not that expensive either. I believe it's a 28mm knot

You have a fairly high end badger, and a solid boar. Why not try horse? They aren't terribly expensive, and a lot of wetshavers (myself included) like them.

Blix - That was something I was definitely considering...it almost seems like everyone has at least one Simpson in their dens.

Birnando - Shavemac is one of those things that I've always heard good things about, but never really researched much. I'll look into it...thanks!

Tsunami - Do you think it would be considerable enough of a difference over my Semogue boar? If I were to get another boar I would definitely be eying some Omega's...but right now what i'm looking for is some kind of middle ground between my Thater and my Semogue.

Saragon - Interesting idea, but I know really nothing about horse hair brushes...regarding backbone and tip softness, where does it fall? The only horse hair brushes I've heard bandied around is Vie Long. Are there any other makers or are they really the go to company?

Well Omega does also make what appear to be very nice silver tip badger brushes also. I just refuse to pay out the keester for a brush (150.00+) that does essentially the same exact thing another 75.00 cheaper brush does. I've owned a few expensive ones and maybe because I'm as sensitive as a fired brick but I see and feel no difference.

A silvertip badger brush is a silvertip badger brush,do you face lather or bowl lather? Loft should be your main concern,JMO

I mostly bowl lather with a couple of exceptions, depending on the soap/cream I'm using. I'm guessing I am looking for a shorter loft, I just haven't tried a 2-band before and am not sure if there is a noticeable difference in backbone.

The difference between a typical silvertip and a classic two band is night and day. The two band exhibits backbone in spades and has no floppiness which the silvertip has loads of. Of course that's a classic two band which are not available anymore. You would have to pick one up used. The current two band offerings are different animals altogether. The new Thater two bands are the closest thing to them I've seen.
