Brush for scuttle lathering
Thinking about a new brush, this time for when I make lather in my Dirty Bird scuttle. Sometimes it's uberlather, sometimes not. I'd love to hear what characteristics others would like in such a brush. I'm thinking a 3 band Silvertip, bulb shaped with a big knot. What's considered big? Over 28mm? Is there such a thing a too big? Anyway, what would you like to see in a scuttle brush?

Have you tried your other brushes in the Dirty Bird? Should give you a good idea what works for you. A brush over 28mm is big, personally I don't like such a big mop on my face. And for me it uses far to much product but YMMV

Have you thought of a longer handle for the scuttle rather than a bigger knot? I have a DB 1.5 and bought the eShave long handle for it...a match made in heaven!
Fendrihan, Classic Wet Shaving Store has them on his main page (for reference and additional info)

I've never been a believer in specialized brushes. A quality brush is just that and will do a good job whatever you throw at it.
Personally I prefer a brush at around 26mm. I've had 30mm brushes and they are just too big for me. They can be harder to maneuver and waste lots of lather. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

25 mm (1") knot and 50 mm (2") long is my best size. More than 50 mm (2") is too long for a silvertip hair and more than 25 mm (1") is like an octopuss on your face. A two band or superbadger allows a superior lenth.

I'd have to agree with thebigspendur here.
A quality brush will handle anything you throw at it.
I use rather large brushes (24-30), and use a scuttle each and every day.
2 band or three, doesn't matter much when it comes to the actual latherability, that is more about feel.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

+1 MWS.
A longer handle can do the trick, a bigger knot is not the solution i think.
Whit a bigger knot then you have right a broom on your face.

Thanked: 375I'd say go for a longer handle with a modern scuttle. It will keep the lather off your hands, and what ever blade your using. A 22mm badger knot has been working great for me.
