Default Need an advice - Muhle / Muehle 21mm silvertip brush

    Hi Gents!

I'm interested in purchasing a Muhle 21mm silvertip brush, something like that

Muhle Silvertip Shaving Brush with Classic Resin Handle

I would be very glad if anyone can tell me something more about this type of brush. It doesn't have to be exactly this from the link. There are several different handles so I'm interested in opinions about Muhle 21mm slvertip knots generally. I've got two Omega boars and I'm quite happy with them but when I face lather, on the second and third pass they sometimes can irritate my face a bit. I want to taste some luxury and have a multi purpose brush and when I live Muhle silvertips are in quite affordable price.

    1. I would like to know if it's soft on the face and in the same time has enough firmness to work well with hard soaps. I read that it's rather on the floppy side but I wonder if holding it on the base of the bristles can add some backbone to it.

    2. Is it shedder?

    3. How does it compare to other soft silvertip/super/finest brushes?

    4. How does it work with face lathering?

    5. What about flow through? I know it's not the densest brush out there but because of that it isn't a lather hog is it?

Those are main questions that i have but every little info will be appreciated.

Thank you all for reply in advance and sorry if my English isn't perfect

I've never had one myself so this is from here-say.

Muhle makes high quality products so you have no concerns there.

Silver tip is soft the question is depending on the amount of fill will the brush be floppy or not and do you like floppy. You'll need an owner to come by and discuss that.

    Hello Piet

I just got this brush in the 23mm size. For around 30 years prior to this I used a smaller badger brush, so when I upgraded to silvertip, I went up in size too.

I can tell you that while my old brush worked fine from a utiliterian point of view, the Muhle is infinitely more luxurious (kind of like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes). It is soft while still being firm enough to generate a good lather using hard soap (Caswell Massey). I would imagine the 21mm would probably be even firmer, as I understand as one goes up in size you lose some firmness.

So far it hasn't shed, albeit I've only had it for a short while, but so far, so good.

I have been loadng it with lather once and there's enough to reapply twice for a three pass shave. You can't go wrong with this one.

    Good luck,

    Peter
