Thanks for the kind comments.

It's a light tent with a black felt background. I like the flat black appearance, as it helps the object to stand out in the overall photo. However, I have a white felt background for it too, and would use it for an object that had darker coloring (e.g., a black-handled brush -- which is in transit ).

That's a really great idea. When I have a free weekend sometime I'll have to try building one.
