Stole three brushes today
Found these on Etsy. They are Simpson era George F. Trumper brushes, in size 1, 2 and 3. They were $30 + $5.35 shipping. So for $35.35 I got these:
I think I did ok.

I'd bet a dollar to a donut they were made by Simpson. I think Trumper's would have contracted that out and they look to me like Simpson with the lampblack nomenclature. Showing my age, when I was a kid a dollar to a donut was a real fair bet. You could buy a half dozen for the dollar. Now I don't think you'd get one donut for a buck.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yeah, always loved that bet. Us old timers probably use a few other sayings that the younguns wouldn't understand. I can't wait to get these. Unfortunately, I just got a Duke 1 and a Rooney in the last week. When I first saw them I was going to let them go, but after a few minutes I snagged them. Too good a deal to pass up. Probably paid a dime on the dollar for them.

Thanked: 74You did better than OK with your purchase. Your "dime on the dollar" remark is probably accurate. Those certainly are Simpson brushes, a Chubby 3, Chubby 2, and Chubby 1 to be precise. Up until recently, Simpson made re-branded brushes for a lot of resellers including: Abraham and Straus, Brooks Brothers, Hoffritz, Trumper's, and others. I would bet money that those particular brushes were made during the Carter/Woodhouse era of the company, which spans from 1990 to 2008. David Carter and Francis Woodhouse purchased the company from the Simpson Family in 1990 or 1989, thereabouts. You should post these pictures on the wetshaving forum, Shave My Face (SMF :: Index). Gary Young is a member of that forum. He is a member of the Simpson family, and he will be able to confirm or deny my assumptions for you, if you want more information. The reason I say they are Carter/Woodhouse era Simpson brushes is that the handles do not have an orange hue, which is a tell tale sign of Bakelite, and the branding is done in lampblack. I believe Bakelite was not used during the Carter/Woodhouse era, and Lamp Black is restricted for health reasons now during the Vulfix era of the company.

Very nice steal! I need to start watching Etsy, I have heard too many good things in comparison to the eboy site.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Yeah, I was looking at something else that someone on another forum posted and just kept browsing. Saw those and waited a bit, couldn't stand it and bought them. Waiting to hear from Gary Young to see if they are truly Simpson brushes, but I have had lots of feedback saying they are. If so I might need an attorney in case they try to charge me with stealing them.

Brushes arrived today. They are too nice, I don't think they have ever been wet. Not sure what to do, and how to re-hydrate the knots.
