    Default my first brush

So after looking at the prices for silver badger brushes and then the prices of silver badger knots I decided to make my own. I picked up this piece of olive wood for $6. It's big enough for two handles but for now I'll stick with just one. I'll keep you updqted with my progress. I don't have a lathe so I'll have to carve and sand this block to get the profile I want. We will see how it goes.

Ok I haven't gotten time to do any work on the brush as of yet. I have Saturday off so after I mow the lawn and fix some stuff to make SWMBO happy, I will attempt to tackle this handle. My goal will be to shape the block into a handle. I doubt I will have time to finish it. I did see that some peoples use drills clamped in a vise as a lathe. I love the idea. However, since it is a rectangular prism and not a cylinder, I think I will still have to carve at least the corners off first.

Well you see your problem is you are looking for silver badger brushes and with the price of silver these days no wonder it's so expensive. Also I don't think silver makes a good brush those wires are too stiff especially for cremes. Stick with the silvertips and you'll be OK.

Wow - you could make a nice long-handled brush from that block. Excellent choice. Looks like you have a great beginning for an excellent project there.
FWIW - I find silvertip knots to be very good, but don't rule out 'finest' grade... one of my best brushes is a finest from TGN and I love it.

It really is satisfying to make your own brush that way.
