Why not get a small stainless steel mixing bowl?
These should be readily avaliable at any store
that sells kitchenwares. They should be fairly
    inexpensive.

Dip dishes, smaller modern-design cereal bowls, large cappuccino mugs, guacamole dishes are also good options. If you are using a soap, bring it to the store to compare the fit.

that ok, recently i have been using it and well to be honest it does its job and looks like a dog bowl, i am thinking of attaching a slight weight to the bottom (outside) of the bowl so when the bowl sits in the water with some cream in it, it will not sit as high but just in the middle. At the moment i find my self having to be so careful not to move the water to much to stop the bowl from filling up and sinking. Also cream is definitly the way forward i have only used 1 type of soap and cream and cream works 10x better for me at the moment there seems to be less claret floating around the bowl now compared to the soap that i used to use. Last thing is should i wash the straight in water every other slice or on a towel/cloth, i have also read i should be cleaning the straight with rubbing alcohol after every use and minerial oil before everyuse?

In general I prefer soaps for shaving. They're a bit easier to use and there's less packaging waste. Which shaving soap did you get? The quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, sometimes even from batch to batch.
If your bowl is made of steel, why don't you just use a magnet?
Water means less laundry to do but you're risking hitting the faucet with the edge. Never happened to me, but I've got a deep sink and a high faucet.
I routinely give them a bit of a wipe with alcohol, but I've never seen the point to using mineral oil before a shave. It should only be used for storage (if you leave your razor for a while, it protects from corrosion) and on oilstones. You can also use it to oil the hinges around the house, for your hair clippers, hedge trimmer or as a laxative.

    Cool

dam thats an excellent idea why not use a magnet, think i must have an old fridge magnet somewhere, and as for the soap it was a Geo F Sandlewood one which was quite nice but the creams work better for me i have read that creams are often easier to learn with. I can't believe i misssed out on the choc mint cream today, all gone maybe next time
