Thanked: 57Billy Goat Brush
I just got a new Vulfix badger brush and used it for the first time today. Whew, it reeks like an old billy goat pee'd all over it. It's gross. I smell it on my face and the bathroom stinks too. How do I get the stink out of that thing without ruining the hair or glue or consecrating it to the fire?

Thanked: 334Did you use shampoo on it before you used it for the 1st time?
As an aside, this sounds like a candidate for the "You Might Be A Redneck" thread...

I know what you mean! Put a couple of tall tablespoons of OxyClean in a glass. then water. Toss it in, bristles down. It will foam and bubble and the bubbles on top will reveal the brown gunk. Let it sit in there for a few hours and rinse it good. That does the trick for me.
Worst smell ever, eh?

Thanked: 1195It's funny, I've been reading about stinky new brushes for years, but I've yet to encounter that myself. Just lucky I guess. My first brush was a Vulfix, and it didn't stink in the slightest.

Thanked: 3226Funny, the only badger brush I own is a Vulfix and never had an odor that bad. It must depend where on the badgers body they take it from. (insert smiley) Really like that brush so I hope you get yours de odored.

The two treatments that I use that hasn 't(as yet) damaged a brush are: Dawn Dish Soap and Borax.
If the Dawn won't hurt a sea bird it won't hurt your brush. And the Borax also works great and will 'kill' most 'bugs' and bacteria.

yep, the borax and some mild soap is the best deal. Soak and work, soak and work for about an hour or so and your problems should be over.
Oh and watch those references to the Goat. I know some goats who are mighty fond of certain shaving paraphernalia. Also they be very sensitive animals and get their feelings hurt real easy like.Last edited by thebigspendur; 07-27-2012 at 03:33 PM.
