Vexing Vulfix...
My Vulfix pure badger brush, which I've had since early September, is still shedding bristles. It seems to average about three to five per week.
I bought the brush from ClassicShaving.com. I e-mailed them about it earlier in the week and they said they would contact the company about it.
Would you expect a merchant to handle this problem, or should I go to Vulfix myself?

I'd expect the merchant to take the lead on this.

My only badger brush at present is a Vulfix 2234 so it gets used a lot, I've never had any shedding problems with it so I doubt that yours is typical of them. Hopefully they'll be able to make good for you.

My main brush is a Vulfix 374 that I have
been using for a little over a year witout
a problem.
You may want to contact Vulfix if you don't
hear anything from classic.
Just be nice during your first contact. More
flies with sugar than vinegar.

Thanked: 0I had the same problem for about six months. Then I bought another brush from John Crowley (Andreas brush? Very nice). As soon as I bought the new one, the Vulfix seemed to stop shedding, only one bristle every week or two. Not sure if the brush just settled down or if the rotation of the two brushes has helped. The second brush hardly ever sheds from the start.
ClassicShaving has a note on their main page that e-mails are not getting through, and give a phone number to try if you can't contact them. When I sent them an e-mail over the summer about the brush they said they'd notify the manufacturer, but were not bending over backwards to replace the brush. I didn't push the matter then, and won't since the shedding stopped.
I did a search over the summer and people seemed to say that even pretty expensive brushes can shed a fair amount, probably a manufacturing variance quality problem.

If you are consistenly using a brush, shedding should not be an issue past a short break in period. Regardless of how the brush is manufactured, whether it be resin based, vulcanized, hand or machine tied, bristles should not continue to fall out. Since the brush was purchased in September, IMO, the vendor should get involved and replace it. However, since they do not make the brush, I can understand why they might choose to let the manufacturer handle it. Seems like enough time has passed to have an answer on this. I would re-contact Classic. We all know them to be reputable. This may have just slipped through the cracks.
