I make my own shaving brushes and seal them with CA glue. Throw them in the sink and let them soak, shouldn't be a problem. I have one with 1 year of use and it's no worse for wear.

    Lightbulb The proof shot

I have always said a pic is worth a 1000 words

This brush is an Vintage Old Spice brush that I picked up off e-bay a couple of years ago I did not touch the wood, don't even know what wood it is???
The original knot was worn to the bone, I pulled it and replaced it with a Silvertip and have never looked back, it is my most used brush, don't know why, I have many better ones...
The brush was old when I got it, the finish on the wood was bad when I got it, and I have abused it mercilessly since I re-knotted it, and nothing, nada, zip, no problems with the wood...

Hey Glen what size knot did you put in,that looks great to me.I was just given the same brush and cobalt blue shave mug with a Jenco 4/8 square point.I'd love to use the brush but the knot is falling apart.

I have a Lignum Vitae night stick from NYPD that is 62 years old and has no cracks. Just another use of fine, dense wood!!

Edwardd, I am 99% sure it was a 24mm but I remember having to use a Dremel with a sanding drum to get it to fit, best thing to do is pop the old knot first then measure...
That brush was the first time I used the bench Vice to crush the knot also, that was so much easier, if you can get hold of the base, just put the kont into a bench Vice and snug the jaws right to the very edge where the knot and the brush meet, and crush it, spin and crush, a few more times and if you get lucky the knot falls right out without losing a bristle
If not then ya gotta cut all the bristles and make a mess then drill it out
    kalerolf and Edwardd like this.
