Kent vs Thater
I have one brush (Simpson Beaufort 4 Pure Badger) and I am looking to upgrade. I am looking at a Kent BLK8 and one of the Thater two bands. I really want a black handle since most of my shaving items are black. They are roughly the same price so I was just wondering what everyone thinks about them? I use hard soap mostly and I also use a scuttle. I have found a lot of opinions on the Thater 2 bands but not as many on the Kent. I like the look of the Kent better but that doesn't mean that it is as good, any input would be appreciated.

dunbarw,
The Kent BLK8 is quite a large brush, and many here on SRP think that the Kent's are 'moppy & floppy'.
I have a Kent BK4 and, for me, I think that it is a super brush - soft on the face and an excellent brush for lathering both soaps and creams
Good luck !
Have fun !
Best regards

I've not tried the BK8, but I had a BK4 and I found it to be too floppy and it didn't have enough backbone for my liking.
I do now have one of the SRP LE two band Thäters, it got a lot more backbone and is a wonderfully soft brush. It is my #1 favorite brush with Simpson Chubby 1 on second place.Last edited by Zephyr; 08-28-2012 at 03:08 PM. Reason: Bee and be are not the same

I've seen this one (BK8) in a store, but it was behind glass so haven't held it or tried it out.
I have a Kent though, a T4, since 2005 (when I started with this craze) and it has been going strong since then. Search for pics of it from some of my SOTD posts. No problems whatsoever with it, except from the odd whisker falling out but nothing major. I started with it on creams and since 2009 have been an exclusive user of soaps, primarily hard ones. Still no problems and I thoroughly recommend Kent.Last edited by rum; 08-28-2012 at 02:58 PM.

No contest. Like the previous posters, I've had and sold a BK4 because I found it too floppy. I have 3 Thater 2 bands and they are some of the best brushes I've ever used.

If it depended on packaging Kent would win hands down.
I have 2 Thater's and they are great brushes. I have one Kent, it's the small B&B brush they did a few years ago. The only reason it's not floppy is because the loft is so short and it's densely filled. I also understand many had QC problems with that brush.
My vote goes to Thater. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
