    Default Recommend me a Brush

    Hey Guys,

All I have is a drugstore brush, I think it cost me 3.99. I'd like to get a middle of the road brush, not crazy expensive. I'd like it to be on the large size and fairly stiff. And I don't mind if a badger is harmed during this aquisition

I'd be willing to spend up to 100 bucks on a decent brush that is going to last me a awhile. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

You might want to check out whippeddog

Larry's famous for his sight unseen razor deals, but I've been very pleased with the silvertip brush I bought from him a while back which, incidentally, cost me less than some boar brushes on the market.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I'd go for a medium silvertip.

The large Omegas are fairly stiff but made from boar bristle so not quite as luxurious as badger. Upside is no badgers are harmed & only approx $20.

Here's the latest addition to my shaving hoard, I've used it 3 or 4 times now & love it.

There are a lot of options in the under $100 range.

My Parker Silvertip in stainless was roughly $65 or so and it performs great with hard soaps or creams. Densely packed and stiff yet soft because it's Silvertip.

I also like my Tweezerman for a stiffer and more exfoliating then the Parker.

    Then there's customs....that's a whole other story

If your going Silvertip and prefer stiff id recommend something close to 28-30mm and overstuffed.

    Just my .02

    Good luck

Second this, I have a nice Omega boar (recommended by Oz if I recall) and I really like the stiffness. They stink like a wet dog for a bit but once they are broken in they are great, particularly for the hard soaps.

I bought a silvertip badger brush on ebay it was called "Frank Shaving". extra large brush for $50. I am VERY happy with this purchase.

Disclaimer: I have never used really high end brushes like Thater, Simpson, Kent, etc
