Thread: Chubby 2 and the soaked knot.

So a close friend just bought me a Chubby 2 Best. I love it and am a huge Simpson fan now. But here is my concern.

I shave every 2 days. That thing holds so much water that when I pick it up each shave it is still a little damp inside. Does anyone else notice this? I use a stand an have it in an open area. I'm just worried that if I use this brush and it stays wet for let's say 6 months straight from constant use, will this have any negative impact on the longevity of the brush?

Dunno, When I'm done with a shave I rinse the brush and then give it 10 ( I count 'em) good flicks to sling the water out of the bristles. Kind of like snapping a whip. I hang the brush for 24 hours and by the time I'm ready to put it back where it goes it is dry to the touch. Are you flicking the excess water out of your brush ? Buy a Semogue boar for twenty to thirty bucks and rotate. They are real nice. Or if you can afford it get a thater 2 band. Anyway, best of luck with it.

I do give it a lot of flicks. And the bristles are dry on day 2 but the knot is wet at the base. I also use a towel to try and help.

In that case I'd get another brush for a rotation. That boar I mentioned is inexpensive and a nice shaving brush AFAIC. If you get the Thater you won't want to use anything else ..... so be careful.

Also, I typically (quickly) run the brush under water bristles facing up, but then just soak in water about halfway up...so the knot doesn't seem to get quite as soaked...maybe that would help? Just tossing out ideas...

I think with any large well filled brush after 24 hrs of rest you will still have some dampness at the base. I live in single digit humidity and the dense brushes are still a little moist at the base the next day.

I was recently wondering the same thing myself. I have found that if you periodically take the brush and swipe it rapidly across something like a towel, or your pant leg, a fairly decent amount of the remaining moisture will be drawn out. Which cant hurt

After thoroughly washing my brushes, I grab them at the base of the knot and give them a number of flicks to shake out the excess water. I then brush them a number of times on a towel. All my brushes are dry after 24 hours, EXCEPT my Chubby 2 and 3. They take 2 to 3 days to dry. I live in humid Miami. But the problem is the density of the Chubbies does not allow for good air flow to dry the brush. Buy an inexpensive Omega boar brush and rotate it with the Chubby.
