Bristles stained green on brush, near handle
I have a Parker brush about a year old. I got it from amazon here : Amazon.com: Parker Safety Razor 100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush (Black Handle) & Free Shaving Brush Stand: Health & Personal Care. A lot of the bristles fell out for the first 6 months + that I owned it, but it has calmed down on shedding recently. However, I have noticed a greenish stain that is starting to form on the bristles near the handle. I'm guessing this is from Copper (I) in the metal (which is often green). Does anyone have any recommendations on removing this? Preferably without oxidizing reagents, as I do not want to bleach/weaken the bristles. Right now I am trying bicarbonate/salt, but will switch to something vinegar based.

Thanked: 603Yeah, my recommendation is to remove the brush, period. It's probably what you should've done when "a lot of bristles" began falling out. How long have you had it? You might try and return it to the vendor from whom you purchased it. Me? I'd ask for all of my money back, definitely not "store credit" -- not with the green discoloration you've described.

When the bristles started falling out I tried to return it to Amazon. They gave me credit and told me to destroy/throw it out. I just kept it because I liked the stiffness of the bristles a little more than my other brush. It seems the vinegar took out some of the stain.

I say pull em' out, if there is copper in there take it out. Go to whippeddog.com, buy you a matching diameter knot and epoxy that thing in there to replace the old ones. Might run you 35 bucks for the knot and epoxy.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

I doubt any modern day basic brush has any copper in it. It's more likely mildew starting to form or some other critters.

Thanked: 1184I don't think they want it back because it may be a health hazard ? Keep the money and the fungus, please.
Buy a drain snake and then try to return it.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
