Tony,
As it is payback time I feel I owe you an answer. Howver I am afraid my brushes are below your budget
I am very happy with my Omega boar brush that has served me for more than 20 years. Being boar it is stiff enough to do soaps. The longer you soak it before use the softer the hairs. I never used a badger brush and do not feel the urge to do so.

Kees,
I too am a big fan of boar brushes too. Own maybe 5 different ones. A few Omega professional ones, a Burma Shave a C&E boar, etc......
I did finally make a selection after an enjoyable afternoon sitting down to coffee with Jim Ayars of Vintage Blades. We attracted a bit of attention with a table covered with shave brushes and strops!
I looked at many Shavemac, Vulfix and Rooney brushes. I finally walked awy with a Shavemac 429 in Finest, a Rooney Style 1 Size 2 and a Rooney Style 3 Size 1 both in Super Badger.
Quite a different feel betwen all three. The Ronneys are very soft against the face but very dense and firm in the rest of the body. Certainly a brush for scrubbing if need be. The Shavemac was much softer through the body but still with plenty of firmness. I am sure there will be more Ronney and Shavemacs in my furture.

That's a nice haul, Tony. My other brushes are gathering dust since I got a Shavemac, and I gave one away to a new straight shaver. It sounds like you're set for a long time.
