Any suggestions on how to keep the hairs together and lined up?

Is there a better method?

I camp out and bring an old woodframed mirror and an old strop to hang on a tree to use for shaving.
Snake River water heated with a Coleman gasoline stove and a dishpan and towel complete the setup.
