    Default Brushes and pre-shave oils

Is it just me or do I get the idea that badger hair and pre-shave oils do not get a long very well?

I have been using AOS's pre shave oil before lathering up - when I'm done the brush feels a little greasy with the oil. It washes out eventually but it takes time and a lot of water.

Anyone else notice this? I'm beginning to think I should use Coral Skin Food as a pre-shave layer as I have done in the past with >= 3 days' growth.

The only pre-shave I've used with a brush is a little cheap hairconditioner before lathering up.

Give your brush a good shampoo to get rid of any oil buildup. That should solve the problem.

Hair conditioner as a preshave works pretty well, though I've found that simply washing my face with a glycerine-based soap works about as well.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll give the shampoo option a try some time soon. It doesn't sound too complicated!
MParker - when you say a glycerine-based soap is that an ordinary bath soap that you can get from any of the big (and small?) brand names or an actual shave soap? Thanks!

Classicshaving.com sells a product called FEATHER HERBAL PRE-SHAVE CONDITIONER. The product claims to be water based and will not clog up or ill affect your nice badger brushes. I haven't tried this product but it might be just what you need. Also, recently I've tried JASON NATURAL MENS 6-N-1 SHAVE LOTION. This product has jojoba oil and other goodies but it must be a water-based emulsion because it cleans easy, leaves little residue --also I've noticed that when I've used a pre-shave oil, the initial lather applied to my face "dies" quickly --I believe the pre-shave oil kills the lather ---but with the JASON product, the lather is unaffected which leaves me to believe it is water based. Hope this helps.
