I love the ones Larry over at whipped dog sells! I have a couple pure badger and a few silver tip. The pure badger have just the right amount of backbone and the silvertip gets a little floppy but is soooo soft you just gotta try one!

You know that is so true about the Semogue 1305 being a totally different experience. Can't compare it to a VDH brush but compared to my Omega boar Omega Boar Bristle Shaving Brush, Mock Ivory Handle | Fendrihan Shaving Store it is a totally different experience too. They both do the job but I would take the Semogue 1305 any day over the Omega. Once brokem in the 1305 is gentle on the face but still has enough backbone.

Ok, now after having used the new brush, I CAN give FS my full recommendation. This is a great brush, not just for the money, but a great brush. Backbone, yes. Densely packed with hair, yes. Its a big size with a shorter loft so the backbone is definitely been designed into it. But the dense hair makes a strong contribution as well. It lathered up a soap with ease this weekend. If I had to compare it another brush, its very similar to my Simpsons PJ3. In fact the dimensions appear to be exactly the same with the same level of backbone. The only difference is that my PJ3 is best badger and this one is Silver tip. And the handle, of course. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

That's funny. I had mentioned the small Simpsons on the previous page. I bought the one you have for a friend, and he complained that it was too large for him. So I lent him my Simpsons for a week and he liked it. I got him another Simpsons, and took his FS in trade. I've been using the FS for about a week--it's become my "other" main brush, with the Simpsons. Where he didn't like the size, I guess I do. It's plenty firm, too.

well my brush came from mastershake yesterday.

i went with a silvertip and I've got to say it is amazing.

i also picked up some Arabian spice and it smells awesome and whips up great. I've found bald frog works backwards for me. i guess at the right amount of water and then load soap to match.

seriously cushions and it smells like a spice pumpkin pie.

Frank shaving brushes are great. i have their 21mm silvertip (a little floppy) and their 26mm finest (two band?) badger brush which is perfect. it has very nice backbone and at the same time the tips are really soft and breaks in well! it has worked well with all my soaps.

I found that if you want to increase the backbone of a brush, you can slip a rubber 'O' ring over the handle. I find my boar brush has more backbone that my badger, and I used to use the 'O' ring on the badger, like this...

i have tried that too, but i didnt have an O ring so i put a collar of paper around my silvertip and put electrical tape over the paper, tightened it real good. loved more backbone so i went for the finest badger.

I would like some recommendations on a good pure badger that won't break the bank but is still good quality.
Try any vintage handle re knotted with black badger from TGN. Based on what ur saying this is what u want. Thank me later. I know I'll love it. Tons of backbone yet soft, holds water
Very well and everything from creme to hard soap with ease. Set the knot deep to shorten the loft and you will have one hell of a brush. I have one set is a vintage fuller lucite handle an its a champ. I use it more than my silver tip. It also is a much higher quality over all the regular pure badger as it is sorted, so u don't get weird stragglers.
