    Question Old shaving mirror

After my Dad found out I had taken an interest in Shaving materials, he gave me this Shaving mirror. It has a box in the front with a lid that comes off for storage of razors, and I'm supposing the brush and mug would sit on top (my guess). Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm not sure how old this is, he bought it approximately 40 years ago, and the elderly gentleman he purchased it from said it had belonged to his grandfather or great-grandfather. Would like to find out something about this, age etc. There is no markings that I have been able to find on it.

    Nice piece.
I am no good when it comes to furniture styles, but have you looked on the underside of the drawer bottom? Many carpenters mark there, and if the mirror have wooden backing it might be on the blind side of that. If it is to tricky to take it of, just leave it on.

Very nice indeed! I'm not an expert, just like old things and love to look around antique shops when I have the time. I best guess on this would be mid 1800's. 1825-1875. Things earlier than that usually are simpler and more austere, and a little later would probably be more ornate.

yep, nada, underneath the lid and bottom it's the same coloring as what's shown in the picture, the mirror back is held in by wood strips. Without measuring I think the strips are 1/4 inch wide. Out of curiosity I asked Dad how much he paid for it and he said it was 20.00 or less. I also have my Grandpa's shaving mirror, not near as fancy as this one, just a square mirror in a frame, but it's staying in the family nonetheless.
