Default Wanting to make my first brush

And would like some advice. A little background, I have been turning pens, 6 to be exact. I have an old shop smith 10er with a screw chuck and a few dowel collets. Can I make a brush on this or do I need an expanding chuck? Any suggestions?

I know most wood people are, well most hobbyist period. I'm going to try to join a club next year, time and money permitting.
