Osage Orange brush
Since I like the look of butterscotch brushes, I decided to make a brush handle out of osage orange. The knot is a 24 mm silvertip from Whipped Dog set at a loft of 52 mm. This was my first attempt at making a shaving brush, and I think it came out nicely.
* an additional note: Larry at Whipped Dog includes a packet of Oxy-Clean to clean and deodorize any new badger knot. Great service!

Very, very nice. I really like the color of the osage orange. Congrats on a well done job.
The contours are very nice and should fit your hand firmly even with lather on the fingers.

I will echo what has been said already. Great coloring with the choice of wood and nice classic lines. Well done!

Thanked: 375Very nice! Last year my mailman dropped a big old block of osage orange in my mailbox for me, and I have yet to turn it. Very nice color and shape!

Thanked: 1263I'd say you did a darn fine job for your first! Great lines and finish, the wood has some nice colour and grain to it as well.

I have seen several guys do this over the years and I have always wondered just how hard is this stuff to turn? Other than fence posts and fire wood I have never used it.

That a beautiful brush WIHunter, thanks for sharing. Kelly’s correct about it being tough stuff. It will dull a chainsaw blade quick, much less trying to split it with a maul.
