    Default Size?

So I looked to see if I could find the answer and I couldn't...

So is a piece of wood that is 5" x 5" x 2" the "right" size to turn for a 24mm knot?

    Would a 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 18" be better?
It is cheaper and I imagine I could get multiple handles out of that one?

    THANKS for the help!

    Ed

1.5 x1.5 is plenty, you will end up with 1.5 round, after you bore the knot hole you will have approx 1/4 to turn on ea. side of the bore

When your turning woods that can cost $80+++ per Brd/ft,it makes a huge diff in any profit margin.

True! I am SURE I will mess up a bunch, so I have to be careful how much I spend.
Don't want to have $80 worth of shavings... LOL

From a NOVICE turner would it be advisable to practice on say a piece of scrap 2x4?
