Default Sure hope I am posting in the right place. Need help with sizes..

I was hoping you fine members here would be helpful with a couple of my questions. First one what would be a good general size wood blank to make a shaving brush handles? Second would be what would be a good general size wood blank for safety razor handles? I know there probably size variables on these, but I am thinking there should be a good standard size for both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Should be moved to the brush maker's alcove. 2"x2"x whatever length you want gets my vote for the brush. maybe 1.5" or 1" for the DE?

I use 1.5" x 1.5" for brush handles. Scales on the other hand are kind of a preference thing. We use .125" to .187" thick material. The width is usually 2" to 3" to get a pair out of and if wider an extra oops scale. We usually try to get 6" long material for the scales too. But its all a preference thing for most!!

I've never made safety razor handles but I'd think the pen blanks they have at Pen Blanks - Lee Valley Tools - Woodworking Tools, Gardening Tools, Hardware Supplies would be perfect at 3/4x3/4x6". It would probably make two per. They have other size blanks as well that may do for brushes, stop by one and browse.

I have had good luck with:
    Pen_Blanks
The 1½" square are good for turning up to1 3/8ths dia . Th he pen blanks will turn 5/8ths easily.
Have fun, You might even carve a nice DE or SE grip??

I haven't seen anyone look into making a safety razor handle out of anthing other than metal. Have you given any thought on how to deal with the threads?
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

You may want to hit up Trimmy72 on the DE handle- he just posted a couple he made here:
