Thanked: 2027Turning Ivory
Found this an interesting feature, the dark line is the tusk nerve root, the top cap will have the same, going to try and save them in the finished handle.

I've got a customer with about 40 slats ivory used for burnishing leather from a shoe factory he said, bout 8 inch long pieces an inch or two wide, he said I can have them when he found them when he found them they were warped so figured they were useless, told him I can flatten em so thankfully he didn't toss em. Can't wait for him to drop em off.
Can't wait to see how thar brush turns out

It might be a good feature to incorporate with scrimshaw?

Thanked: 2027The anatomy of a tusk is actually quite interesting (at least to me)
The nerve runs the entire lenth and exits at the tip,Elephants can actually feel with Their tusks like we can with our fingers.

Unless you think it will break, PLEASE continue. The thing will be cool, maybe dribbble some CA into the cavity.
An elephant's nerve passage. I would like it! 'Look! There is where the nerve ran!' No one has saved that. Considered it scrap.
Bit of history. Awesome!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
