Thanked: 28Some pretty old maple
Finally turned one out! Made a little soap dish to go along with it too. The maple was reclaimed after becoming obsolete as a cable raceway. Glad to keep it in service.

Nice job. Great re-purposing.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 28Thanks guys! The wood was given to me by a gentleman I met last weekend. He had a complete woodshop behind his house and helped me mill the exotics. He gave me a few decent chunks that he had left over from making his dining room table.

One thing that I always watch for are shipping crates. Where I work we have items shipped in from all over the wourld.
Sometimes the crate or skid materials are awesome stuff. mostly not though!!

Thanked: 2284Fire wood. I've turned bowls from a lot of different species that were suppose to be burned. Maple, cherry, ash, elm, honey locust, and even Osage orange. You can fined beautiful wood in your neighbors wood pile!
Nice repurposing of wood shown here. You did a great job on both the brush and the bowl!Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Thanked: 28Turning bowls isn't too hard. Between the vast amount of knowledge here and watching the heck out of YouTube you can learn quite a lot. There was a lot of waste from the bowl started out with a 4x4x3 piece. You could call it an accidental soap dish haha. I'd say the hardest part is getting exactley what you started out to make.
