Thanked: 375Not that it matters at this point but, I forgot to mention the two on the left were finished with Danish oil and the two to the right were finished with CA.............and the last knot is Horse not Silvertip
Had to correct that.....it was bugging me........lol
I put the Bee hive in service and love it! The second one is hanging in my rack for now and I've installed a Finest Badger. I set both at around 50mm loft. I usually like the longer handles but this shorty is nice!CHRIS

Thanked: 13245I really like the Beehive look
I have a nice 25mm Knot here at the house for me, I might try and emulate that look into an Elk antler piece and put a new brush together for myself Or I might explode a piece of Elk antler all over the shop
Thanks for sharing Chris

Thanked: 375Like this one.....http://straightrazorpalace.com/brush...re-antler.html
not that you need a word of advice lol, but here's what I ran into....This is one I made from Elk antler....once you get into the pores (not sure of the proper term) those pretty little speckles that start showing up, is dried blood (I never gave it much thought). I can't stress this enough, once you turn it give a good long soak (maybe salt/water). That blood if the antler isn't sealed inside and out completely, produces a very unpleasant odor and will weep. I have to yank the knot out of mine or destroy it and spin myself a new one. I don't have a stabilizing system, but plan to make one.
I love turning antler, I need to get a hold of some Moose, if I understand correctly it's solid, no pithy spots.CHRIS

Thanked: 13245Was thinking of turning it, then doing a Hydrogen Peroxide/water boil, like a European skull mount, then use my Vacuum Chamber to seal everything..
I am not sure how the nude Elk Antler will react with the boil. that I am going to have to learn I guessLast edited by gssixgun; 05-24-2014 at 03:24 AM.

Thanked: 375Sounds good to me.........I would be very interested to know how that turns out. The Hydrogen peroxide I guess will whiten thing's up pretty good, I didn't even think of that.
I have a bunch of Elk Antler, maybe I'll try what your talking about. Less the Vacuum chamber for now, I need to figure something out for that. I'll have to track down some threads I remember being posted on here of home made Vacuum chambersCHRIS
