Thanked: 25New brush makes it to the line up
The line up is only two brushes now, but it sounded good.
The first 3 pics are of the new one.
I used some flooring samples for the wood. It was called Murado, or something like that. Could be just a marketing name, rather than a species.
The lighter wood is the natural sap wood in contrast. I glued 3 pieces together to make a turn-able block.
The underside of the sample had a 3/16" channel milled into it for some reason. Turning exposed that void in places.
Black dyed epoxy was used to fill in those gaps.
I like the longer handle, grabbing it by the last knob to work the scuttle and lather the face.
The knot is a Super Badge Bulb. Nice on the face.
The forth pic is the olive wood first brush I made with the Silver Tip Badger.
I posted about lathering problems with it. A couple of members suggested cleaning to wash out oils.
That brush is doing well now, as this new one did the last two nights. However, I notice the new one is a little funky smelling, even after washing with dish soap. A second washing helped some.
One note is that I had a hell of a reaction to the dust from both brushes when turning. Eyes swelled half closed, nostrils bloody raw inside and some shin peeling on the face. Took a whole week to recover. This is with a mask on. Been woodworking for years (not with these two woods) and never experienced that before.
My lathe now has a 4" vacuum hose inches from the work piece, backed by a 1 1/2 hp dust collector.

Thanked: 2284See my Avatar pic, that's what I wear doing all my turnings. Kill two birds with one stone, face shield and respirator all in one. Some of these exotic woods can be worse than cigarettes when they become airborne.
As for the brushes, you did a great job! I like both you posted here.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Thanked: 375They look great! I like the bottom one the most something about the bottom portion of it then coming up into a tulip shape works really well. If I were a wood carver I think I would carve flower petals into the top part.
Definitely wear a dust mask , safety glasses at the very least! I need what HarryWally has ....CHRIS

I snagged mine for about $55 shipped. Just need to buy filters, and make sure you don't buy the small. M/L fits 95% of men.

Thanked: 25Great mask. I'm looking for something with an external air source.
My reaction was much worse than I alluded to. My face has come through bar fights in the Army in better shape. LOL
