    Default Projects

Here is one I've almost finished. Just needs another coat of poly methinks. Made from ash from a tree I took down last year.

Here is one of a black and white ebony handle that still needs a final top coat.

Here is another view of the same handle.

This will, I hope, be my first composite brush.

And this is a piece of big leaf maple burl that is destined to be a matching bowl for a handle made from a piece of the same wood that was gifted to me by a member. I'm trying to figure out whether I can save some of the natural edge in the finished bowl.

Thanks for the compliment. I was holding onto the burl you sent until I could find a block for a matching bowl-and the cash to pay for said block.
I will be certain to post the finished set.
I made a combination salt shaker/pepper mill out of another piece of burl I had, and I love the finished grain.
I'm still wondering if I can incorporate that natural edge into the finished bowl. I think it would look really cool.

Gorgeous wood, especially the B&W ebony handle on the lathe!

    Cheers.

I should have a photo update later tonight.
BTW, do you have any thoughts on Behlen Woodturners Finish vs. poly in terms of durability?

    And here they are.
I kept the design on the maple burl simple as possible to showcase the grain.
All three have been taken to 600 grit and the wood slathered in EEE Ultrashine. The acrylic portion of the compound
handle got treated with Hut Ultragloss polish.
Right now I'm still thinking about final finish. The composite will probably get a couple of coats of Minwax wipe-on poly.
Haven't decided on the other two.

Here is an update on the bowl to go with the maple burl handle.
Here is the blank attached to the faceplate.

After rounding, it's beginning to take shape.

Here it is with the mortise for attachment to the four-jaw chuck.

Finally, here are two views after turning. I took the inside and bottom to 320 and the outside to 600. EEE Ultrashine was applied to the outside. The i.d. is 3 in. and its almost as deep.
    Next will be poly.
