    Default First Brush Ever

Thought I'd share my first effort turning a brush. In fact, this is the result of my first time using a lathe. Please be kind with your critiques, There are many flaws, but it still works great.
My folks live in the northwest and my father has a the mother of all wood shops. When I get out there to visit I spend a lot of time in there, but everything is a learning process for me.
As a noob, I really don't' know much about technique so I just kind of winged it. On top of that I think I chose the most difficult wood to turn: Black Palm. This stuff wants to splinter, a lot. Made things kind of challenging to say the least.
Cleaned it up as best I could and finished it with CA. Fitted it with a 22mm finest badger bulb from TGN. The epoxy ran a bit but I can live with this. This is my first high quality badger brush and the difference is huge.
The bug has been firmly planted. My newly ordered lathe should be here in about a month.

Funny, but you never hear the anyone say "this should complete my collection" on this forum.

i really like the shape and the look of the wood. wood turning takes some practice to get the right angle for the tool so that you are not scraping but rather cutting without it catching. i've done a little myself and am not proficient by any means. you are off to a good start! look forward to seeing more in the future.

    Nice shop!

    Nicer brush!!!!

The fact that your FIRST brush resulted in any sort of actual brush is a major accomplishment and now you just have to make more of them. Congrats in your first effort!

    All,
Thanks for the encouraging comments. Funny how one obsession can lead to another. Wet shaving - making scales - restoring razors - turning brushes - buying a lathe .
Just finished making a rolling stand/bench for my lathe that I won't have for another month .
Space is getting tight so I need something mobile .
    I'll post some pics.
    Cheers
