Thanked: 2284Clear lucite brush mimic
I've had this brush locked in my head for a while now and really couldn't wait to do it. Finally did it and I love the way it turned out. Wasn't sure after I took it off the lathe if I wanted to paint the pocket black, but I did and love the old school lucite handle look. Paired with the black badger knot, I think it all goes together very well.
Thanks for looking fellas!

Do you use cast acrylic or extruded. OR...do you cast your own?
Thank you!

Thanked: 2284It's Cast acrylic from Delvies plastics. Had never turned acrylic until I bought a bunch of rods from them. I'm starting to get the hang of it on the lathe now. It cuts much different than wood so it takes some getting use to. Its fun stuff to turn.

Looks really nice. How is the knot fixed? I can't see any trace of epoxy.

Thank you for the source information!
Extruded rod is really unstable and often shatters without warning when worked. To use it safely it should be annealed by soaking it in an oven at almost melting temperature for a few hour and letting the oven cool slowly.
Thank you again!

Thanked: 2284Thank you Richard! I had always wondered the difference between extruded and cast. The guy who sold me it recommended the cast but failed to tell me why. Now I know! Plus, the cast came in far more color options.

Thanked: 2027Looks great, wonder if you could just sand the inner portion with say 120 grit if it would make it opaque?
