First set of brushes with my new lathe.
Been playing around with my new lathe, acquiring all the necessary tools, chucks, chisels to etc. Thought I'd share some of my first efforts:
These are a couple made from spalted maple:
Inlays are padauk, basswood and walnut. I felt it needed a little more size and heft so I added them after the initial turning.
Tried some with offset turning. This is locust from a neighbor's tree.
a short version...
and a longer one.
These are not exactly perfectly symmetrical but they feel great in your hand. Should be able to improve with practice.

Both honey and black locust is a highly underrated wood. It's great stuff and very resistant to moisture. Great job on your first set. Sure gives you a sense of accomplishment when you get to use a brush you made yourself, eh?

The stand is a modified saw horse I bought from Home Depot. With some scrap lumber I had on hand I built the set up and added casters. Seems to work out just fine so far.
