New project
Quilted buckeye burl
Bowl block on the lathe.
Cutting the mortise to go back on the four-jaw chuck.
Cutting off the lid.
Sanding. I took it down to 600 grit on the outside, 220 on the inside and the bottom.
Starting the handle.
The knot is not yet epoxied in. I have since put a couple of coats of Danish oil on it and am contemplating the final finish. I usually use about three coats of poly, but have had some really nice results on peppermills with sealing followed by salad bowl varnish (both from General Finishes) followed by buffing and waxing with carnauba so I'm a bit torn.Last edited by irish19; 03-23-2015 at 02:55 AM.

I'm not sure why some of the pics are double posted, but so be it.

I will. The grain on this is awesome although this piece didn't have some of the copper-colored "eyes" I've seen on some other examples.

I actually finished this a while ago, but haven't been around. The first pic is pretty blurry.

That was actually the second picture. Here's the first.
