New Handle
The handle of my favorite brush needed a new handle when the wood shrank and cracked since it the paint peeled and cracked and let water in. I didn't seal it when I did a reknot since I figured the epoxy would do that, but didn't even think about the paint peeling and cracking. The cap threaded onto the wood handle, but when it shrank and cracked the cap slipped off. I like the knot alot so I did everything I could to save it, but the wooden handle always felt small so figured I would make a bigger and longer one. I used faux ivory. Since I still haven't gotten my lathe running thought I would try using a drill press and files again and it worked alot better this time. The plastic was alot softed than the wood I tried last time. Unfortunately I used a belt sander before the drill press to remove most of the material and it ended up making things a PITA since it threw off the balance. I just glued the cap to the handle this time instead of relying on threads to make sure the cap stays put. I really wasn't to concerned with the handle as long as it was comfortable since the knot is what I wanted, but it turned out better than I thought it would. I really need to get my lathe running so I can make another brush that I won't mind using more so I don't have to really on this one as much. That is hoping I can get another knot that I really like.
