    Default Half way there

I bought a horse hair brush about a year ago. Try as I might I just can't abide the prickly feeling when I face lather with it. I really liked the look of the handle and it was comfortable in the hand. The only solution was to reknot it. I have a TGN Finest 2 band fan knot coming so I though I'd get a head start and steam the knot out.

    Before

    After

The knot came out easily with very little clean up of the handle bore to do. I would bet you could even reuse the knot. The handle bore is a hair under 24mm and the incoming knot is 22mm so that should work out just ticky boo. Looks like the loft will be 46mm using the original handle bore depth which should work just fine also. Fingers crossed it all works out as planned.

I make no claim to being a brush maker so if it is in the wrong forum please move it.

    It's a very attractive handle.

Too bad the horse hair knot didn't work for you. Perhaps you can re-purpose the knot. I use a home plate brush that a baseball umpire uses to brush ash off the hearth.

You know I have an old empty handle kicking around so just maybe the horsey knot may make a good duster for felt hats and the PC.

    She is done.

The knot turned out to be taller than expected so the loft is set to 50mm. I did not want to deepen the original handle bore in case I got down into the bottom part.

Looks like the effort was a success. I used it this morning and it felt better than the horse hair knot to me, much better really. I did not see any hairs fall out either.

Really nice reknot. That handle is great. I'm with you on the horsehair. Not a fan.
