Thanked: 2284My Rehandled Thater..
For the longest time I've wanted to do this project, extract the badger from a Thater brush and make a nicer handle for it. Well I finally did it and I'm very happy with the results. Used my normal technique of completely trashing the original handle by cutting, sanding splitting it away until all that was left was the badger knot. It's a 24mm, 2 band, Thater Fan.
Then came the decision of material to use and shape. I wanted to go with a vintage look when it came to the shape, but also wanted it to pop a bit too with the colors. So here is the picture I based the handle off of. I found it on google and when I saw it I knew it was the handle I had to make.

Here's some pics of the build process.
Thanks for looking guys.
Forgot to mention I dropped the loft down from 53mm to 50mm to give it even more backbone. Had a chance to use it last night and it's fantastic.Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 10-26-2015 at 11:58 PM.

Another fine looking brush, HarryWally. I like the classic shape and the green material.

Now THAT's a Thater I could love! Nice work, Andrew. I dig how you use factory knots and remove them safely.
(However you realize it may not be as magical and valuable without that logo'd cheap handle!)"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Another cool brush....perhaps you could fake the logo, use the same font, same size but call it a Thooter...I've seen that kind of thing done....

Well THAT's a good thing! Despite Bill's statement, I am inlay-challenged!
HAY! I need some super-melt adhesive. I shall PM Andrew!
Thanks, Bill!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."

You know, I have been around some loud, sharp things...skilsaws, chop saws, chainsaws, table saws (a little), right angle grinders...etc.
But the idea of a block of something spinning at a jillion miles a minute and altering the shape effectively by hand....dust and screaming...well, I really like to see the process and the results, but the process makes me feel kind of weak kneed."Call me Ishmael"
