Thanked: 2284Wood and Acrylic
This is my first brush I combined wood and acrylic together. The top is Stabilized Buckeye burl, middle is Smoke translucent acrylic, and the bottom is Stabilized Big leaf maple burl, and I finished it all with 4 coats of oil. As you can see by the pictures, I also had a natural curve in the wood where bark would have sat. It ended up being right in the wall of the badger pocket and would have caused the badger hair to hang wide in that area. So I decided to fill it with real Turquoise dust, Using Tape as a form. You will see this in the one picture.
Thanks for looking Gents, and I hope Santa was good to everyone!

I love the uniqueness of the handle shape and the turquoise dust highlight. Funny, the acrylic really doesn't look like acrylic in the pictures. The wood is awesome and so is the finished brush!

Another fully functional work of art!!!!
I'll have to commission you to make a brush for me one day.
I wonder what Cedar would look like? Wish I had kept a stash of it I had back when I lived in South Carolina.......
GREAT WORK as always!!!
Is it over there or over yonder?

Thanked: 2284Both pieces of wood have been stabilized using stick fast stabilizing resin. The buckeye burl piece I actually doubled the weight, plus a bit after the process was finished. The oil I use is a marine teakwood oil that is used on boats. It also has a UV inhibitor in it as well.
I actually took pics of the buckeye before and after on the weigh scale.
After stabilizing
Before stabilizing
As you can see, I added 102 grams of resin to this piece of buckeye. It was very light and soft before. After it was very heavy and hard.Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 12-29-2015 at 11:24 AM. Reason: added pics
