Thanked: 4207So, I'll say I advanced the runner on this one.
Not a home run, but not an out either.
This jig is crude as it was really just to prove the theory out. The depth is much more consistent now and I can control the parallelism of the flutes. Just need to build something beefier.
Have to make a better degree stop for the protractor gauge, maybe out of thin gauge steel with a notch at the exact degree desired. Either that or drive an encoder with a display cause that is the absolutely break point for this design. The 60' spacing has to be exact, like + or - 0' or it's not gonna look right.

Thanked: 250MikeB52, go to a machinist supply catalog and look at what we call a "spindex" indexer. It uses 5-C size collets that you can put your blank in and index your work with. Travers Tool Co. is one of the tooling suppliers I use that have these. MSC Tool should have them too.

Thanked: 4207Cleaning these test pieces up with some hand sanding and they don't look to bad actually.
That spindex turning jig would be spot on, might look into purchasing one down the road for work, but ideally I can still come up with a jig that does what I need for home use. Thinking of something that can tie into my wood lathe ultimately..
Think this amboyna one's bumping the babinga outta the box Tom..
More to fiddle with on this project, but I think it's doable now.

Thanked: 4207Thanks Tony. Gonna try a couple out of Uhmw this week to continue to refine the process.
Should be able to mass produce them by the spring. Hehe.
Now to choose and order some appropriate knots. 24-25 mm dia, but thinking of ordering some shave Mac as opposed to tgn.
Happy Monday men.
