Brushmaker's challenge
So you think you can make a strop starting from scratch?
This is what you need. Found it in a museum here in Denmark, 500 DK, about 70 euros.
Quite surprised to see this as badgers are a protected species in the Netherlands. As it is for sale in a state-run museum here I guess it is legit. I had a look at it from behind the counter. Looks like it has enough hairs for a few brushes.
I did not buy it so it is still for sale.

Thanked: 4827I think they shave the badger and then discard the under wool and use the guard hairs. I think it might be tricky grading the hairs and stacking them. My eyes are too old for that.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I am a bit disappointed in the brushmakers among us. I had expected my inbox to be full of PM inquiring where to buy the skin but none of it.

That's because we go out and get it ourselves!!!! We're tough like that, just catch them, shave what we need and release them back into the wild
Then run like there's no tomorrowLast edited by Dieseld; 08-18-2017 at 11:40 AM.

That's why I keep seeing badgers with bald spots...
I just thought they were old and going bald naturally, like me.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

I have to say, this begs the question...
Why would you skin a badger in the first place? I understand, sheep skin, bear skin and tiger skin rugs... but badger
On the subject, I hear that Chuck Norris has a tiger skin rug... It's not dead it's just afraid to moveFact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

If you just rub their bellies, they lay there for about 30 seconds.
So you have to be quick and efficient..........
Not to mention a VERY fast runner after you're doneLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz
