Thanked: 3225Simpsons Chubby 2 reknot
Had a Simpsons Chubby 2 handle looking for a knot. Ordered a Maggards SHD 28mm 2 band fan which duly arrived 20 days later in good order. Yes, you have to be patient when using their most economical shipping option. It took 20 days to go 800 miles/1280kms and cross one international border. Not the least unusual.
I opened the hole in the handle slightly and set the knot using Goop with the loft set to 51mm. Just waiting for the Goop to cure 24 hrs.
Fingers crossed

Thanked: 4826Man I don’t have anywhere enough brushes. I like that handle a lot, even if it is a little short for a sloppy shaver.

Good looking knot Bob. I still need a fan shape in my collection. Sounds like about the same loft i would have went with. Let us know your thoughts on the first shave.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 3225Got up early to try the reknotted brush out. I had palm lathered it last night with Tabac to clean it and see how it would bloom. It had no noticeable odor to start with and vary little if gunk came out in the palm lathering. It is the largest knot I have and did it ever bloom. Must remember not to load as much soap next time. No hairs were shed either.
It face lathered like a champ using a Tabac puck. The tips were soft and it had enough backbone for me. It felt a little scrubby if I leaned into it but normally just a wall for badger on the face feel. I like those characteristics very much. I'd say I like it as much as my Simpsons Manchurian and Shavemac 2 band silver tip brushes as they feel similar to me. I had been a bit worried that it might have been a lather hog being a "super high density" knot but that turned out to no problem. The overall initial impression is very good and I am quite pleased with the knot.
It also passed the drop test with the knot staying put so it guess the glue job was OK. The handle got quite slippery with all that lather in a big knot and some of it winding up on the short handle. Rediscovered why short fat handles are not among my favourites.

Thanked: 2284That knot looks like the real deal Bob. I’ve ordered knots from Maggards in the past, but never one of these SHD ones. I may have to get some. Nice work on the reknot!
